[...] To be honest, a sponsorship is only one part of a wider branding strategy and needs to be assessed against each brands’ objectives. At the same time, branding is only one aspect of a sponsorship agreement and you can read more about the other aspects in my previous post “Questions & Answers about an EPL sponsorship”.
Hi Phil,

Thanks for your comment and insight from the other side of the world.

I still remember you telling me the story about West Brom and T-Mobile. It always stuck in my mind to do something special and to get engaged at all levels.

And I know that your excitement about West Brom can't be drained away ever ;)

Hi Felix,

What an excellent blog and great to see that you took the major sponsorship. Living in Australia as I do now, I can ensure you that enthusiasm and interest in the EPL is still very strong, even on the other side of the world!

As you know, having written my masters dissertation on the effectiveness of sports sponsorship, I think your assessment on the value of the sponsorship is excellent. One of the key aspects to a successful sponsorship is that it becomes a partnership between the club and the sponsor - more importantly, if the brand can find a way to engage and build a relationship with the supporters it ensures a felling of trust. A good example is West Brom and T- Mobile who worked really well together during the "Great Escape" season of 2004/5 and turned "having a logo on a shirt" into a true experience for club and fans alike in and around the ground. The last match was ironically against Pompey who also enjoyed the day as Southampton got relegated thanks to West Brom staying up!Talking as a West Brom fan I will look forward to "death by a thousand cuts" as we no doubt get promoted this year and then slowly have our enthusiasm drained away during next season! :-)

Good luck to everyone in the FA Cup. Pompey have superb fans and truly deserve to end the season on a high. PUP!

Really fascinating breakdown of the thought process and the value that Jobsite derives from the sponsorship deal, thanks for posting this and thanks for mentioning my article on the Pompey/Jobsite experience. It was truly a fantastic day, and I can certainly attest to the value of such an opportunity to your clients and prospects. Thanks again for all the wonderful hospitality.
